I was given an ARC of the book and I thought it was a good crime thriller。I haven't read any of the other books in this series but that didn't matter because enough was said about the past to get the gist。 This story focuses on a detective, Helen Grace, who not only has to find a serial killer but also deal with the politics within the police force - and her past deeds /encounters。The writing style fit the story well, as did the characters, however, the formatting made the story confusing in par I was given an ARC of the book and I thought it was a good crime thriller。I haven't read any of the other books in this series but that didn't matter because enough was said about the past to get the gist。 This story focuses on a detective, Helen Grace, who not only has to find a serial killer but also deal with the politics within the police force - and her past deeds /encounters。The writing style fit the story well, as did the characters, however, the formatting made the story confusing in parts because one character /scene bled into another so I didn't know what was happening - perhaps this was due to poor formatting with the Kindle edition?I did enjoy the story and thought that Helen was a great character - I do like strong female leads。Overall, this ticked many of the positive boxes for a police drama。Worth a look。 。。。more

So many turns and twists I am dizzy!Loved the book, a solid thriller really well written。 Certainly hooked enough to start the series from the beginning and enjoy DI Helen Grace's character development from the beginning, very well done indeed! Book 11 in the Helen Grace series, a well grounded disturbing series to slay any lover of thrillers。 MJ has being a master writer in his growth of Helen Grace she has evolved and grown throughout the books and this continues in Cat and Mouse。 Eagerly anticipated next book after a chilling chill hanger in book 10。 Another fantastic book by MJ Alridge I always expect to predict his plots but barely get it right until the pages before the reveal。 This type of suspense for me means I don't put the b Book 11 in the Helen Grace series, a well grounded disturbing series to slay any lover of thrillers。 MJ has being a master writer in his growth of Helen Grace she has evolved and grown throughout the books and this continues in Cat and Mouse。 Eagerly anticipated next book after a chilling chill hanger in book 10。 Another fantastic book by MJ Alridge I always expect to predict his plots but barely get it right until the pages before the reveal。 This type of suspense for me means I don't put the book down and read in one sitting。 Really twisted crimes are always on tap, with ongoing issues with criminals and the much loved personal drama of DI Helen Grace。 Cat and Mouse Helen is living under the shadow of a threat to her life and always looking over her shoulder。 This plot line does not hold back with its gruesome crime, then a rigorous police investigation。 MJ Alridge has a way of writing that puts the worst possible crime alongside a deep insight into the personal lives of the police team。 You really get to know and feel their lives while hunting criminals and balancing work and life。 Arlidge gives more than enough details of previous books to enable a reader to pick up any book in the series, I would always recommend reading the series from book 1。 However  this can be picked up as a standalone with all the history needed to follow story signposted。 A 5 star read, this series gets better with each book and Cat and Mouse is up there as my favourite of the series for its exciting pacy plot with DI Helen Grace ripping my nerves to shreds trying to guess what she will do next。 #CatAndMouse #Netgalley#MJArlidge #Thriller2022 #NewReads#BookReviews 。。。more

Another great read from M。 J。 Arlidge。 I have read all of the previous Helen Grace novels so was very happy to be approved for an ARC of this one。 I felt like there was a good balance between the crimes the characters were solving and their personal lives。 This was fast paced and a very enjoyable read。 I am looking forward to catching up with Grace in the next one and seeing what sort of a character the new guy turns out to be… Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC。

Another brilliant instalment in the DI Helen Grace series! The book is fast paced from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down。 There was lots of twists throughout, but of course DI Helen Grace always knew what was up! A brilliant read, and that cliff hanger! Can’t wait for the next book!

I have read all of this series so of course i wanted to read this one。 A few in the series havent been as good as the others, but i have kept on with reading them。 This one was a good one。 My only criticism of this book was one part of the storyline i felt wasnt needed。 When I'd read it i couldn't see the relevance of it as it didnt seem to have any impact on the way the book ended。 I shall continue to read anymore that come in the series, but i feel that the author may be struggling with tying I have read all of this series so of course i wanted to read this one。 A few in the series havent been as good as the others, but i have kept on with reading them。 This one was a good one。 My only criticism of this book was one part of the storyline i felt wasnt needed。 When I'd read it i couldn't see the relevance of it as it didnt seem to have any impact on the way the book ended。 I shall continue to read anymore that come in the series, but i feel that the author may be struggling with tying up all the loose ends now。 Brilliant series which i have enjoyed but not sure how much longer it will work 。。。more

3。5 starsSuperwoman Helen Grace is back, and she shows no signs of slowing down。She continues to run recklessly at things with good intentions, and personally I'm all for that。It gives the book good pace, and some tension。There are moments I was properly heartwarming by the team。 Not so Emilia, but that's the point。Enjoyable。 3。5 starsSuperwoman Helen Grace is back, and she shows no signs of slowing down。She continues to run recklessly at things with good intentions, and personally I'm all for that。It gives the book good pace, and some tension。There are moments I was properly heartwarming by the team。 Not so Emilia, but that's the point。Enjoyable。 。。。more

I found myself drawn straight into the action with this book and found it all the more fascinating as it is set, as are the whole series, somewhere that I know, Southampton! As to this book being part of a series, I didn't find it spoiled anything my not having read the previous 10 as enough previous plot points were referred to BUT reading this book out of order has potentially spoiled the previous books for me as part of this storyline is a continuation of a previous one。Towards the middle of t I found myself drawn straight into the action with this book and found it all the more fascinating as it is set, as are the whole series, somewhere that I know, Southampton! As to this book being part of a series, I didn't find it spoiled anything my not having read the previous 10 as enough previous plot points were referred to BUT reading this book out of order has potentially spoiled the previous books for me as part of this storyline is a continuation of a previous one。Towards the middle of the book I was starting to feel a bit bogged down by the misogynistic senior officer and the incredibly stereotypical characters of the reporter and one of the suspects。 By the third quarter of the book it had changed track and sped up dramatically becoming a book I just didn't want to put down and had to finish! All in all I found this to be a great read and even though I found some of the characters unpalatable I can see their point to the story that was being told。 I really can see myself starting this series of books from the first one, yes I know where some storylines are heading but it was such an enjoyable read, I can put up with that! 。。。more

A good summer read, riveting, compelling and action packed。 I liked that it can be read as a stand alone but for maximum enjoyment probably best to read as a series。

DI Helen Grace - the formidable, wonder woman of Southampton PD is back!I love MJ Arlidge’s series following DI Grace and her team and so when this book became available on NetGalley as an advance copy, I lept at the chance to read it!I thoroughly enjoyed this edition to the DI Helen Grace series。 However let it be said this book is not half as good as the first books from the series。 The last two books have been a bit formulaic and predictable with the wrong ‘guy’ being caught mischief to the e DI Helen Grace - the formidable, wonder woman of Southampton PD is back!I love MJ Arlidge’s series following DI Grace and her team and so when this book became available on NetGalley as an advance copy, I lept at the chance to read it!I thoroughly enjoyed this edition to the DI Helen Grace series。 However let it be said this book is not half as good as the first books from the series。 The last two books have been a bit formulaic and predictable with the wrong ‘guy’ being caught mischief to the embarrassment of the force and other wrong doers being pulled in for crimes that are similar but not the right one。 This was all a little annoying because they were obviously the wrong criminals。 Added to that Helen and her team were very single minded in their investigation and interrogation of key evidence and survivors。 Add to this Charlie’s totally irrational home life issues。 It’s a shame really because the story is really very good and the twists are well concealed, the book would’ve still been brilliant without those mishaps。Similar to the previous novel we have a very different Helen Grace to the one we first started out with。 I feel her character could now do with some further development。 Stripped of need to feel physical pain and the man who she sought out to ‘help’ her。 Also, now that her sister and nephew are both out of the picture - I’m not sure who Helen is anymore。 Interestingly Helen ponders this very question during ‘Cat and Mouse’, stripped of her badge, put on leave and unable to talk to Charlie… what are we now left with? Well, for a start she’s a one woman army who is not only super intelligent she is also completely formidable。 She’s more comfortable on two wheels than four and lives alone with (apart from Charlie) no friends, hobbies or social life。 Personally I’d love to know more about this new Helen and see her embrace life a bit more。Overall and in despite to my previous comments this is a fantastic read! It’s fast paced, edgy, thrilling and hard to put down。 For those of a weaker disposition this book is not for you! Arlidge does not hold back when it comes to broken bones and bloody matter。 I almost had a heart attack in the beginning whilst reading the scene involving Bailey! That was very closely played and utterly heart stopping to read。For those who haven’t read any DI Helen Grace, I would wholeheartedly recommend that you do。 But I wouldn’t recommend this particular book for your first venture as a LOT of water has gone under the bridge and you’ll feel a bit lost picking up the story at this juncture。Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I have to say, I love the Helen Grace series, and I feel that this instalment is the best! A spate of horrific murders is taking place, Helen is not only battling a very careful killer, but her conflict with Peters also steps up a gear, with Peters going out of his way to remove Helen from the helm of the MIT! There are plenty of action-packed paragraphs, and as with previous tales, we find Helen is practically indestructible, always managing to come out of battle with just a few minor scrapes! A very fast-paced and enjoyable;e thriller。 It was my first experience of reading about the dashing Helen Grace and I loved the images of her speeding round the city on he motorbike。 The story wasn't all that original, to be honest, but the writing was good and the characters well-drawn, so it was an entertaining couple of hours well spent。 I will read more by this author, so a solid four star。I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily。 A very fast-paced and enjoyable;e thriller。 It was my first experience of reading about the dashing Helen Grace and I loved the images of her speeding round the city on he motorbike。 The story wasn't all that original, to be honest, but the writing was good and the characters well-drawn, so it was an entertaining couple of hours well spent。 I will read more by this author, so a solid four star。I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily。 。。。more

I read this book in just a couple of sittings。 Yet another fast paced DI Helen Grace thriller。 Lots of jeopardy and all the stuff we love! However, I hate to be saying this but I feel like the story arc’s of this series are becoming the same。 I can’t say too much without giving this away but I felt it was actually pretty predictable and I’m a little disappointed by that! Still really enjoyed it hence the 4/5 but it wasn’t quite a 5/5 for me for that reason!
